Coming through!

We are taking courses at the SPCA on dog agility! We started in the level 3/4 class because it was the only time we could go (due to horseback riding). Nolla fit it really well! She even went around the course off leash. We had to walk, and remember a course of 15-18 obstacles, and she listened to exactly where she was supposed to go. We were even able to get her on the teeter totter!

She is doing amazing and I'm hoping to do some fun trials this summer.

What we need to work on:

  1. Her walking with me off lease, staying near me
  2. Her doing bottom (where the front leg are at a lower level than the bottom feet)

On our way to success!

I have intensively been training her to speed up her jumps, and tunnels. It is going well actually...

I made her some homemade peanut butter treats that serves as her secret addiction! She loves them and they are super healthy. She is learning it is better to come, and receive treats then to run away and get in major trouble.

Here a dog leaps willingly over a high barred jump

The key to agility is that a dog listens to your every command and comes like crazy, and that they live to please. Make a bond with your dog (puppy) to ensure this will happen.

Tough Love...

To get our lovely little dog into a good condition we are going to have to give her some serious training, and muscle build up!

Her schedule will be fit to ours, so that she can spend time with us, and get her time exercising.
This dog is doing a sort of water therapy, where he is walking on a treadmill and
walking in water.

This dog is just walking on a treadmill, you can find them from kijiji or buy
them brand new!

When you take your dog for a walk try using a brisk pace, so the dog has to trot to catch up (building stamina, and muscle) Also throwing a tennis ball (or a sort of ball) for your dog to catch is great exercise especially when your dog has a friend to race, and chase!

Also take your dog for a bike ride, skateboard chase, or some roller blade fun! They can run right with you through the whole time, and you can enjoy watching them.

Training your dog/ teaching her tricks is a great way to bond, and use mental stimulation to your advantage. Some tricks i use are:

- Bow
- Stand
- Wave
-Shake a paw

The more tricks the better! The more advanced they are the more your dog has to think...

If your dog is out-tricking you try buying, and or renting this book from the library! This dog has some serious smarts

This book has many different levels of tricks from beginner to advanced!

We are thinking of buying her some brand new equipment by March, to get her outside and running...
